INDIGENOUS-NEWCOMER CONNECTIONS COORDINATOR 

RED DEER, AB, Canada ~8 hrs/week    Until March 31, 2028

Do you believe that lasting change happens when people have opportunities to connect, build trust, and learn from one another?  

Care for Newcomers just happens to have an exciting opportunity for you!  

We're looking for a community-minded individual to join our team as the Indigenous-Newcomer Connections Coordinator. 

 A little about what you’ll do: 

  • Build and maintain respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community partners, and newcomer participants 

  • Create opportunities for meaningful dialogue, relationship building, and mutual understanding between Indigenous and newcomer communities 

  • Help create welcoming, respectful, and inclusive spaces where participants can share experiences, learn from one another, and build lasting connections 

  • Support and coordinate storytelling circles, cultural exchange activities, educational events, land-based learning opportunities, and community gatherings that foster understanding and connection. 

  • Promote programs, recruit participants, and support registration, communication, and participant engagement 

  • Support participant surveys, project evaluation, and reporting activities 

 A little about what you bring to Care for Newcomers: 

  • A passion for building community connections and fostering understanding between cultures 

  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, ways of knowing, and the importance of Truth and Reconciliation 

  • Experience building relationships and working collaboratively with Indigenous communities, newcomer populations, or diverse communities 

  • Experience working alongside Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community leaders, or a willingness to learn and build those relationships respectfully 

  • Strong communication, facilitation, community engagement, and relationship-building skills 

  • You take initiative, determine priorities, and work effectively with minimal supervision 

  • Experience coordinating events, workshops, community programs, partnerships, or volunteer initiatives is an asset
