Red Deer District Chamber hosts Alberta Chambers of Commerce AGM (Annual General Meeting)

On May 25, 2024, Red Deer proudly welcomed delegates from across Alberta for the Alberta Chambers of Commerce AGM and Policy Plenary Session at the Red Deer Resort and Casino. This event brought together representatives to tackle crucial issues at both the provincial and federal levels, leading to the adoption of 22 policy resolutions.

The Red Deer District Chamber of Commerce was at the forefront of this successful gathering, playing a vital role in presenting and advocating for four key policies that were adopted. This accomplishment highlights the dedication and hard work of our Chamber’s policy committees.

The newly approved policies championed by the Red Deer District Chamber include:

  • Regulatory Approval for Heat and Steam Recovery Technologies
  • Initial Capital Expenditures
  • Increase to the Canada Workers Benefit
  • Small Business Rental Tax Rates

These policies target critical needs identified by local businesses, reflecting our commitment to grassroots efforts that drive change and foster innovation with the government. Additionally, our Chamber collaborated with other chambers across the province to develop and co-sponsor three more impactful policies:

  • A Pathway to Fixing the Housing Affordability Crisis in Alberta
  • A Tailored and Local P3 Approach to Affordable Housing
  • Increasing Access to Mental Wellness Workplace Supports

Scott Robinson, CEO of the Red Deer District Chamber of Commerce, underscored the event’s significance: “The Policy Plenary is one of the most crucial activities our organization undertakes. For 130 years, our Chamber has been the voice of business, collaborating with all levels of government to support the business community. This year, we were especially proud to highlight our region’s rich history and continue our tradition of strong advocacy.”

This year’s AGM and Policy Plenary Session exemplified the collaborative spirit and strategic efforts of the Alberta Chambers of Commerce, setting a solid foundation for continued advocacy and support for businesses throughout the province.
